TERRIFIC
Terrific Records appears
to have been the record label of Crocodile Music, a publishing / production
company owned by Peter Plant and Malcolm Ironton. It was quite long-lived
but not prolific, issuing around a dozen singles during the period
1979-85. Some were by people who had previously had hits - John Springate
(as a member of the Glitter Band) and Cliff Bennett. Catalogue numbers
were usually in a TRIF-000 series; they reached TRIF-011 but some are yet
to be accounted for. TRIFs 001 to 004 came out in 1979, after which there
seems to have been a break; TRIFs 007, 008 and 009 followed in 1981, and
TRIF-011 in 1984. The '80s also saw a TOW-69,
and there was an undated DEUCE-1. 'Game, Set
And Match' b/w 'Tennis Referee' by P.T. & The
Plimsols (TRIF-002) was picked up by Warner Bros and released as K-17428 in
August 1979. The discography below only covers the 1970s. Thanks
to James Denholm for letting me know the identities of TRIF-1
and of the people behind the label. The scan comes by courtesy of Robert
Bowes.
