THE ISLANDERS
An outlet for recordings
by a Guernsey-based duo called 'The Islanders', which featured Shirley
Waterman on keyboards and Noel De Carteret on vocals. 'The
Islanders' may not have been the official name of this label, if indeed it
had one, but it passed my qualifying test by having the words on the label
twice: the lowercase ones at the bottom plainly refer to the artists, so I feel
justified in treating the large uppercase ones at the top as the label's
name. Be that as it may. There were at least five records on The
Islanders. Three were albums, but there were also an EP and a single,
which qualified the label for this site. All shared the same SLN-000
numerical series; I have yet to account for SLNs 001 to 003. SLN-004,
an EP called 'Togetherness', offered the tracks 'So Lucky', 'Till I Kissed
Ya!', Penny Piece Of Candy' and 'Vaya Con Dios'. There's no date on it or
on any of the albums, but fortunately the single shown above, 'White Christmas'
b/w 'Where The Blue Of The Night' was dated 1978 and proves that The Islanders'
place on this site is justified. SLN-005, the 'Just The Islanders' LP,
offered a version of Roger Whittaker's 'The Last Farewell'; the original was a
hit in the summer of 1975, so that at least gives us a 'Not before' date for
that particular record. One label design served throughout, as did the
silver-on-black colouring. All of the albums had the introductory line
'Peter Rose presents', so it seems reasonable to guess that he was the driving force behind the label.
