TONY PIKE MUSIC LTD

One of the labels of the Tony Pike Organisation, the other being Tepee (q.v.).  The Tony Pike Music Ltd label appears to have been used for custom recordings made in the company's Putney-based studio, whereas Tepee was an outlet for proper issues.  It operated from the mid '60s until at least 1973, and generally used a TPM-100 numerical series, with an 'SP', 'EP or 'LP' suffixed to the 'TPM as appropriate.  Both sides had their own number.  Of the few records on the label that I have seen listed, most have been acetates, but there were some vinyl ones, which were presumably intended to be sold by the artists.  I haven't managed to track down many, and only one of the 7" records definitely dates from the '70s: it was a five-track EP by The Cavaliers, which in addition to the tracks shown above (2) offered 'Let's Do It Again', 'Thank You' and 'We'll Gather Lilacs'.  That EP was made through John Hassell Recordings (q.v.) and its catalogue number, HAS-EP-3017, was taken from a series used by that company.  Comparison with records with numbers close to that enables the Cavaliers' EP to be pinned down to 1973.
The label design with the company's name at the top seems to be the most common; it also came in red-on-white and gold-on-black.  Some labels just had a reference to Tony Pike Music Ltd on them (1).  By the mid '70s ill health appears to have forced Tony Pike to bring his interest in the music business to an end.  An advert in 'Billboard' of the 10th of November 1972 said that his Putney house and studio were for sale, together with his publishing catalogue and catalogue of master tapes.  Three years later the 'London Gazette' of the 28th of November 1975 reported that the Tony Pike Music Ltd company had been dissolved.  The few items that I have found with either TPM prefixes or the appropriate labels are listed below.  As can be seen it's a pretty poor showing, so any help in adding releases would be welcome.  Thanks to Nicholas Hough for bringing the label to my attention and for supplying the scans.  See also 'Anglo'.
