TRICERATOPS
Triceratops appears to
have been a DIY label; its only two releases featured guitarist Melvyn Willin,
so it's reasonable to suppose that he was the man behind it. First out
was an EP entitled 'Amor Vincit Omnia', which featured the tracks 'Love Is Blue', 'A
Time For Us', 'Lingering Thoughts', 'Greensleeves', 'Habanera', 'Anji' and 'Keys Of Canterbury'. It
was made through custom recording firm Sound News Studios (q.v.), and
its catalogue number, SM-72, was taken from the series used by that company. There
were no dates on the labels but comparison with other Sound News numbers
enables us to say that 1975 is a very good bet. The labels do
however give an address, showing that Triceratops was based in Bishop's Stortford.
The second Triceratops was an album split between Willin, the Guitar
Youth Orchestra, the Adult Guitar Ensemble and the Symphonia of Guitars. It
came out in 1982 and was made through another custom recording concern,
SRT (q.v.). It had one of SRT's numbers, SRTX/82/CUS-1343. Its labels
didn't mention Triceratops, but they had a picture of one of them at the
top. Thanks to Klepsie of the 45Cat site for bringing Triceratops to my
attention, and to Mystdrf of the same site for allowing his scan to be used here.
