TYGER / TYGER LABEL
One of a host of small independent labels, Tyger - or
'Tyger Label' as it referred to itself - did better than most by issuing more
than a couple of 7" records; in fact it managed seven altogether. They were numbered in the
TYG-0s. The first to emerge was 'Red Box' b/w 'Worrying Man' by I Jog &
The Tracksuits (TYG-1), which came out in January 1979, according to the 45cat
site. Three more singles and an EP followed in 1979-80; there then appears to
have been a lull until 1982 when a couple more singles appeared. Records from TYG-2 onwards
had a large logo on the 'A' side label and all the information on
the 'B'; the layout on both varied. Klepsie, of 45cat, reports that the
Tyger label was from Uxbridge; reportedly it was based at the
Unit One youth club. Thanks to her for that information, and to
Steve Hill for the first scan. James Denholm was kind enough to send
the second scan in, while the third appears by courtesy of Janie
Jones of 45cat.
