UNIT 1

Another of those ephemeral labels which popped up during the '70s and and popped down again almost at once.  Unit 1 seems to have managed just one record; a single by Con O'Shea featuring 'The Typical Irishman' on one side and 'Galway Shawl Jig Selection' on the other.  There was no date on the labels, but the catalogue / matrix number, WO-2305, was taken from a series used by manufacturers C.H. Rumble (q.v.).  WO-2234 came out in 1973 and WO-2564 in 1975, which suggests that the Con O'Shea single came out in or around 1974.  He later put out an album, 'This Is Con O'Shea', again via C.H. Rumble, but while it had a WO number - WO-2523 - it was on the Paco Records label rather than Unit 1.  I would guess that both the single and the album were financed by Con himself, who, according to the sleeve notes of the album, moved from Kerry to Britain when he was eight years old.  Thanks to Fokeman of the 45cat site for the use of his scan here.
