WILD
DOG
The label of the Wildog Studios, of
Aldridge, near Birmingham. The sleeve notes to the only three Wild Dog LPs
that I have seen referred to their being recorded at Ginger Studios, Aldridge -
were these two different studios, or did it change its name? Wild
Dog would appear to have been a custom recording concern, one of those
companies which was paid by artists to make records. It seems to have
been operative in the late '70s and early '80s, though the lack of dates on
labels and sleeves is a problem; the Nottingham Forest tribute single, 'Marching
To Munich', by Karl & The Heidelbergers (DOG-20) was pressed by Lyntone and
had a matrix number of LYN-6688, which tells us that it came out in 1979, the
year of the club's European triumph in that city. In the '80s
injection moulded singles appeared, which were pressed in France by Polygram (3).
Catalogue numbers suggest that Wild Dog issued at least fifty records, but not
all the numbers may have been used. LPs were numbered in the
DOGLP-00s, EPs and singles in the DOG-00s; the numerical part was not
shared between the 7" and 12" records. The 'discography' below lists
the few Wild Dog 7" records that I have managed to trace. Thanks to Steve
Hill for the first scan.
