ZIPP

A small
independent label from Penkhill, Stoke-on-Trent. Zipp managed around nine seven-inch releases in the
late 1970s, using a ZB-000 series. It appears to have taken a break at the
turn of the decade and to have been revived in the early '80s using different
numbers. Records from the '70s often had a credit to Bumble Productions on their labels,
along with the names of producers Ken Stevens and / or Barry Cartlidge, which suggests that Zipp was an outlet for that production
company. Zipp was responsible for at least one collectable 7", 'Take
It Or Leave It' b/w 'Metal In Disguise' by Rock band Reincarnate (REIN-001;
1982). The first label design had a zip on it (1); this
lasted until at least ZB-009 and came in blue and pink as well as in white. It was followed by a plainer one (2),
with variations (3). The
Flashback and Ray Stanton records were manufactured by French company
MPO, which suggests a release date in the early '80s. See also 'Bumble
(BUM prefix)'. Thanks to Steve Hill for bringing the label to my attention.
