ZONE

A Reggae label, Canadian in origin.  Zone was more prolific in its native land than it was in Britain but it put out a couple of singles here, both of them by Leo Simpson.  They were numbered in the Z-100s and they came out in 1978.  First off the presses was 'Eh Can Go So' b/w 'The World Today' (Z-003), which had a black label with silver print; second was 'River Flowing Inside' b/w 'Version' (Z-004), which is pictured above.  A previous single, 'Black Oppressor' b/w 'Black Oppressor Version', was issued in Canada on Zone as Z-101 in 1974; it was picked up here by Trojan and released on Horse as HOSS-49.  Leo Simpson featured as artist and / or producer on all the Zone records that I have seen listed, which suggests strongly that he was the driving force behind the company.  Thanks to Robert Bowes for the scan, and for bringing the label to my attention.
