ZZ / PETE ZEAR RECORDS (?)

A one-off DIY label
from Canvey Island. As can be seen from the scan, which comes by courtesy
of Steve, Pete Zear's single 'Tomorrow's World' b/w 'Fast Food' had white
labels with the artist and titles hand-stamped on to them; an insert
included with the record gave the information that the producer was Rat Scabies
of The Damned and that three members of Southend Punk band The Vandals helped
with the backing, but it didn't mention a label name. Some sources give
the label as Pete Zear Records, others as ZZ; as the latter include 45cat and
the authoritative New Wave Discography I've decided to follow them and call it
'ZZ' - it may not actually have had a name. The catalogue / matrix number,
which presumably appeared on the vinyl, in the run-off, is reported to have
been ZZ-1, and the New Wave Discography gives the release date as
August 1979.
